CBS News reported recently that Knitting is Good for your Health. This is something that many knitters have known for years. I have heard personal stories from people who have quit smoking, writers who overcome “writers block” all by just picking up their needles and knitting. It is a truly amazing thing. I welcome your stories and look forward to posting your comments.

Several years ago I was told by my doctor I had to undergo major surgery with a 3 month recuperation. Fortunately, my husband and grown-up kids were around to assist me when I needed it. Simce I had all this time on my hands, I decided to use my hands to pass the time. I had several knitting projects lined up and began as soon as I came home from the hospital. I made my daughter an afghan, knit my great-nieces sweaters and worked on other projects that had been put aside for..well, as many of us crafters know, for years. I can honestly say, I looked forward to the time I had to take it slow due to a health issue. For me, knitting can be a challenge at times, but I love a challenge..I also like those easy-going knitting projects..those that I choose to unwind.
Thanks Christine for terrific topic!
…I recently read an article that stated it was good for your brain too since it is one of the few activities that uses both sides of your brain at the same time.
I began knitting regularly when I found out I was going to be a grandmother. How stereotypical right? Then I continued knitting through a stressful job, my 25th wedding anniversary, my father’s final illness and death, my kids’ problems, needless to say I don’t leave the house in the morning without my knitting. When I actually don’t have a project to work on after I finish something I feel stressed out! I knit and walk, I knit and listen to books on CD, of course if I am forced to watch TV I knit. The only thing that stops me is when I overdo it and tendonitis sets in. That is torture on so many levels!
